"You are welcome"
We are often clouded by biases and judgments whenever we receive information or communicate with others. But what if we practiced unconditional welcome?
Unconditional welcome is the act of receiving someone without judgment. It involves two simple philosophies: allowing others to stay as they are and accepting them as their true selves.
It’s worth noting that there is a big difference between neutrality and unconditionally welcome. Neutrality is passive - accepting someone hesitantly, without emotion. In contrast, welcoming someone unconditionally means fully embracing their story, accepting the unfiltered version of themselves with their flaws, problems, and complexities in the present moment. It is neither tolerance or condescension, nor it’s an effort to appear compassionate. It’s, instead, a complete and genuine openness - without reservations or hidden judgements.
Though the idea sounds simple, it’s a powerful framework that allows others to feel truly heard and loved. The practice of unconditional welcome extends beyond just people; it applies to ideologies, animals, or even the voices within yourself.
And its beauty is that, in doing so, you may find a part of yourself to love. To give is to receive, and that is the guiding principal here.
“Love is what happens when we stop trying to figure out who deserves it”
